AUB.
- The registration for the First Undergraduate Organic Competition, that will take place on Feb 7, 2011 in celebration of the International Year of Chemistry
(IYC2011), is closed. 46 teams have registered for the competition. The distribution of the teams is as follows:
25 teams from the American University of Beirut, 10 teams from the Lebanese University, 6 teams from the Lebanese American University, 2 teams
from the University of Balamand, 1 team from Notre Dame University, 1 team from the American University of Beirut & Beirut Arab University, and 1 team

- The First Undergraduate Organic Competition in Lebanon will be organized at the American University of Beirut on Monday, February 7, 2011
as an activity celebrating IYC2011. The competition is open to ALL students in Lebanon who completed Organic I and Organic II courses. Teams of two students will be
competing using Clickers with the "Fastest Responders" tool. Students are allowed to choose their partners. The competition is made of 15-20
multiple-choice questions with four-six possible choices. Prof. Kaafarani will present each question and will allow students some time to enter their
answers. When all responses are collected, as indicated by the software on the slide as well, the statistics of students' answers will be
shown on the slide. Then, the instructor explains every question and analyzes the provided choices and students’ responses. A slide listing
the top five “Fastest Responders” teams will be posted. The team with the correct answer in the fasted time gets 50 points; the second team
gets 40 points; the third team gets 30 points; the fourth team gets 20 points; the fifth team gets 10 points. At the end of the session, the team with the
largest number of points will be declared the winner of the First Undergraduate Organic Competition in Lebanon. IYC tokens and cash awards will be given to
the winners and IYC pins will be given to the participants. Faculty and students are invited to attend the competition, which will be followed by a reception.
The session will be videotaped and will be posted on Youtube. This event is endorsed by IUPAC and is listed on their website at:
